Kenny Wheeler's Lost Scores

To mark ten years since Kenny Wheeler’s passing and the upcoming recording project with the Royal Academy and Frost School of Music – we are proud to present this rare and largely unheard music of Kenny Wheeler, from his most formative period at the very beginning of the formation of his own big band. Using the Wheeler archive at the Royal Academy of Music, his original scores from his first BBC broadcasts in the 1970s have been reconstructed and are presented here for one of the only times ever, since their original performances in the BBC’s Maida Vale studios more than forty years ago. This is an exclusive performance of this special project and features an exceptionally rare chance to hear this extraordinary music, as well as some of the finest young musicians emerging on the scene from both here in the UK and from Miami in the US – alongside a legend of British Jazz that was part of the original Kenny Wheeler big band sessions; Norma Winstone. Also featured are the RAM/UM heads of jazz, trumpeters Nick Smart and John Daversa, and rising star James Copus.
